The DBE Non-Classified Singles competition is for bowlers who do not have a classification.
16 members entered to play at Gedling IBC Nottingham on January 7th.
The competition was run on a Knock-out format with the bowlers losing in the first round going forward to a ‘Plate’ competition thus guaranteeing all bowlers at least 2 matches.
Members came from all parts of the country.
Barry & Steven Nicholson, Holmfirth – Andrew Bayston, York.
Shaun Stubbs, Melton Mowbray – Keith Haggerwood
Ray Kirk, Nottingham – Harry Atkin, Derbys – Adam Summerscales, Barnsley
Steve Smith, Surrey – Fynn Kyser, Leics – Colin Wagstaff, Grantham
Colin Smith, Nottingham – Dean Robinson, Devon
Chris Gray, Northants. – Khalila Hussain, Swindon – David Walker, Leeds
After the second round of the competition Ray Kirk, Chris Gray, Fynn Kyser and David Walker were through to the semi-final of the main event with Chris and Fynn coming out the eventual finalists.
Chris winning the final by 21 shots to 6, the score not really reflecting the quality of the bowling. Fynn at only 13 years of age, showed ‘great talent’ for the future. We will certainly be looking forward to seeing him in future events.
The ‘Plate’ final was played between Adam Summerscales and Shaun Stubbs with Adam being the winner after a very close game.
Congratulation go to all competitors for a wonderful day of bowling. Many close games, the semi-finals on 3 rinks going into the last end the scores were level, showing what a keenly fought event it was. Great to see several ‘new faces’ and many of our founder members.
DBE Chair Paul Brown presented the winners with their trophies, thanked the Gedling volunteers for their hard work and help and wished everyone a safe journey home.
Margaret Smith DBE, Competition Secretary.
