DBE NATIONAL OUTDOOR PAIRS AND SINGLES REPORT
The DBE National Outdoor Pairs took place on the 14th July at Leamington Spa.
32 bowlers from all parts of England competed in a knockout competition with the first round losers competing in a Plate. The format was 3 bowl pairs each game being 1 hour 30 minutes to the whistle.
Last year’s winners Kieran Rollings and Paul Brown made it through to the final along with Mike Robertson and Jonathan Stokes. The match was fiercely contested. The scores being all level going into the last end, Paul and Kieran came out the eventual winners by one shot to retain their title, much to the disappointment of Jonathan and Mike.
A wonderful match to watch.

The weather was beautiful but much too hot to be playing so many games. It has been decided to try to work something out for next year to cut down the number of games in one day, maybe by doing something similar to the singles by having regional qualifiers.
DBE National Outdoor Singles 15th July at Leamington Spa
Eight qualifiers from the regional events came through to Leamington on the Sunday.
They drew for places in two groups, played 3 games round robin with the two winners playing in the final.
They played 15 ends or 21 shots up whichever came first.
Green group – Mike Diston – Chris Gray – Steve Ireland – Gary Swift
Yellow group – Kieran Rollings – David Turner – Paul Brown – Colin Wagstaff
Chris Gray was the winner of Green group and went on to play Kieran Rollings the Yellow group winner.
Once again we were treated to a wonderful display of bowls in the final. Chris won the first 2 ends then Kieran drew level and after that, took the lead and stayed there despite Chris battling on. The final score was 12 shots to Kieran and 8 to Chris.
It was good to see several of the other players and families stay on to watch the final.
Our faithful band of helpers travelled down from Gedling IBC, to whom we were extremely grateful, especially Tim who pushed wheelchairs all weekend in the sweltering heat.
Mark Wordingham from Bowls England came to watch and we asked him to present the trophies.
All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend.
